Overview

We supported Thrive Jersey in securing and delivering Jersey's leg of the UK's largest suicide prevention initiative, the Baton of Hope.

The opportunity

The Baton of Hope is the largest suicide prevention initiative across the British Isles, designed to challenge stigma, spark conversation and create lasting change. Thrive Jersey, a local community initiative, wanted Jersey to become part of the 2025 tour, but with over 50+ cities and counties bidding to host one of 25 stages of the national tour, securing and delivering one of just 25 stages of the national tour required careful coordination, political engagement, sensitive storytelling and trusted communications across a wide range of stakeholders.

Our approach

We worked alongside Thrive Jersey over a 14-month period, first supporting the successful bid to bring the Baton of Hope to the Island, before helping deliver the initiative in the lead up to the event and throughout the event itself.

We brought together strategic communications, stakeholder engagement, PR, media relations, content creation and on-the-ground event support, working alongside government representatives, public health leaders, charities, community groups, people with lived experience and local media to ensure every communication remained accurate, compassionate and impactful.

In the run-up to the event, we delivered social content and led media planning and interviews across radio, print, online and broadcast, including pre-event features with Baton Bearers, public health representatives and the Island’s Lieutenant Governor. On the day itself, we coordinated extensive broadcast coverage with BBC and ITV, facilitating interviews across multiple locations, including with the Deputy Bailiff and members of Government within the States Chamber, helping Jersey's story reach audiences across the Island and beyond.

Alongside communications delivery and as part of our commitment to our local community, our team volunteered throughout the event, helping support participants while ensuring important moments were captured with care and sensitivity. We also produced a comprehensive bank of professional content, photography, videography, drone footage and interviews, to support both Thrive Jersey and the national Baton of Hope team in extending the campaign’s legacy.

The impact

The Jersey leg of the Baton of Hope brought together over 30 charities, agencies, services and community groups, visiting more than 25 locations across the Island in a single day.

Beyond the event itself, the campaign helped raise awareness of suicide prevention, influence policy conversations and bring together political, healthcare and community leaders around a shared purpose.. It created space for people to share their stories, build connections and carry hope forward long after the Baton had passed.

The impact of the initiative was recognised nationally, with the Baton of Hope later appointed as a partner in the Royal Foundation’s National Suicide Prevention Network.
